Dismember

旺角發生恐怖倫常碎屍案，竟然有母親如此狠毒，將親生女兒肢解（dismembered），實在令人震驚。

Member解「成員」，而字首dis-解「不」，動詞dismember字面指「使不是成員」。Dismember有兩個意思：一、解「肢解」，將人或者動物的身體分割。例句：The police believed the girl was dismembered by her mother in the bathroom.（警方相信遇害女孩在浴室裏被母親肢解。）The butcher always shot the cow dead first and would never dismember a cow alive.（屠夫總是先把牛射死，從不會活生生把一隻牛分肢。）Dismember的過去分詞（past participle）dismembered，可以用作形容詞。例如，dismembered body parts（被肢解的身體部位）。

Dismember的另一意思指「瓜分（領土或組織）」，是書面語。例句：At the end of the war, the victors dismembered the empire completely.（戰爭結束，勝利者把帝國完全瓜分。）As reluctant as he was, he had no choice but to dismember the company.（雖然他毫不情願，但他別無選擇，只能將公司分割。）
