Bend to public opinion

是否收回粉嶺高球場爭議大。香港高爾夫大聯盟擔心政府會順從民意（bend to public opinion），收回球場，有錢人失去傾生意的地方。高球場使用政府資源，市民卻難以享用，難怪市民傾向收回。

動詞bend本身解「使彎曲」。例如，My grandmother cannot bend her knees at all.（我的祖母完全不能彎曲她的膝蓋。）Bend the ruler down and release it quickly.（將間尺向下彎曲並快速放手。）

Bend可以有抽象意義，在上文提到的bend to public opinion中，bend指「順從、服從」，帶有「不情願」的意思。例句︰We all know the government will eventually bend to public pressure.（我們都知道政府最終會屈服於公眾壓力。）

還有常用語bend the rule，指「解釋或修改規則以通融某人」。例句︰He stuck to the policy and had never bent the rules for anyone.（他堅持政策，從來沒有為任何人改變規則。）Bend the truth則指「歪曲事實」。例如，Stop bending the truth to suit your own interest！（停止歪曲事實以切合你自己的利益！）
