Untraceable

連續多日每天新增近百宗確診個案，而且近半源頭不明（untraceable），第四波疫情看來勢必持續至聖誕新年。

動詞trace可以解「追蹤、查出」。例如，This tea house traces its origin to a farmer in the 17th century.（這間茶館的起源可以追溯到17世紀的一個農夫。）The police had successfully traced the murderer before he committed another crime.（在兇手再次犯罪之前，警察已經成功追查出兇手。）

Untraceable由un-（不）、trace（追蹤）和-able（可以）組成，合起來指「難以追蹤的、難以發現的」。例句︰Almost half of the local cases were untraceable.（幾乎一半的本地確診個案都是源頭不明。）

Hong Kong confirmed 41 cases of untraceable source on Sunday.（香港星期日證實有41宗源頭不明的個案。）

很多時追查都是依靠蜘絲馬迹，trace用作名詞，可以解「痕迹、微量」。例如，The criminal removed all traces of evidence.（罪犯消除了所有證據。）

It only takes a trace of the allergen to trigger the immune system.（只需要微量過敏原即可觸發免疫系統。）
