Insure

近日接連發生意外，當中西九車禍導致兩死、觀塘重建地盤天降木方擊斃泥水工人，意外既突然又不能預算，死者家人定必難以接受。希望他們能取得合理賠償，起碼在金錢上保障（insure）他們的生活。

Insurance解「保險」，其動詞是insure，指「投保、保險」。Insure可以直接跟受詞，點出給甚麼人或物提供保險。例句︰Whenever we mentioned this accident to car insurance companies, they either refused to insure us or gave us an astronomical price.（每當我們向汽車保險公司提起這事故，他們要麼拒絕給我們投保，要麼給我們一個天價。）You should insure your house, but not the land under it.（你應該為你的房子投保，而不是它下面的土地。）

Insure可以後接介詞against，指出防範甚麼原因導致的損失。例句︰Our household goods are insured against theft.（我們家裏的物品保了盜竊險。）保額多少，則可以用介詞for帶出。例如，Julia Roberts's smile is insured for $30 million.（茱莉亞羅拔絲為微笑投保了3,000萬美元。）
