Rebound

每次疫情放緩、措施放寬，總有專家警告疫情有機會迅速反彈（rebound），呼籲市民盡量減少外出和不必要的聚會。但是我們或許仍要持續抗疫一年半載，學懂如何在新常態中正常生活，加強注意衞生更為重要。

Rebound一字由字首re-和字根bound組成，re-解「再次」，bound解「跳躍」，合起來指「反彈」。例如，The rubber ball rebounds to one-third of the height from which it has fallen.（橡膠球反彈到它掉落的高度的三分之一。）

Rebound除了指物件反彈，也可以指數字、價格「反彈、回升」。例句︰Infectious diseases experts warned there could be a large rebound after the Mid-Autumn Festival.（傳染病專家警告，中秋節過後可能會有很大的反彈。）The oil prices rebounded yesterday after a 10% drop last week.（石油價格在上周下跌10%之後，昨天反彈。）

Rebound還可以指「適得其反、產生相反效果、使某人自食其果」。例如，His constant bluffing rebounded on him because no one believed his estimation was accurate any more.（他經常虛張聲勢，結果適得其反，沒有人再相信他的估計是準確了。）
