Imminent

新冠肺炎的確診數字直逼200萬，在疫情未見緩和下，多國城市的大量商舖仍然關閉，失業率不斷攀升，經濟衰退迫在眉睫（imminent）。希望能盡快成功研製出疫苗，徹底解決這場災難。

形容詞imminent解「臨近的、即將發生的、迫在眉睫的」，coming or likely to happen very soon，多用於負面的事情，譬如危險、災難等等，所以在現在大流行的惡劣情況下，imminent一字很常見。例句︰Many countries faced imminent lockdown over coronavirus.（許多國家因冠狀病毒而面臨迫在眉睫的封城。）Global recession appears to be imminent if the pandemic is not resolved soon.（如果不能盡快解決這場大流行，全球經濟衰退似乎即將來臨。）

Imminent常配搭名詞danger（危險）、death（死亡）、disaster（災難）、threat（威脅）等等。例句︰Some believed the transmissibility of the virus was downplayed, leaving the public unaware of the imminent danger.（有些人認為該病毒的傳播性被低估了，使公眾沒有意識到迫在眉睫的危險。）
