Containment

有傳染病專家預計新冠肺炎病毒在夏天依然具有廣泛傳播能力，我們或許需要長期鬥爭。香港人可能要思考在長期疫情下如何生活，何時將抗疫政策從圍堵（containment）轉變至減災。

名詞containment是由動詞contain加上字尾-ment組成。先看看contain的意思，contain常用作「包含」解。例如，Over the counter products generally contain very few active ingredients.（非處方產品通常含有很少的活性成分。）其實，contain一字還可以指「抑制、制止（有害物蔓延）」或者「控制（情緒）」。例句︰Many countries have placed travel restrictions to make efforts to contain the virus as much as possible.（許多國家實施旅遊限制，以盡最大努力遏制病毒。）I rushed home as I could not contain my excitement anymore.（我趕緊回家，因為我興奮得再也無法控制了。）

名詞containment則只可以解「抑制」，不會用作指「包含」。例如，The situation on the containment of the COVID-19 epidemic in Hubei has been gradually improving.（湖北遏制新冠肺炎疫情的情況逐漸改善。）Hong Kong may have to consider shifting strategies from containment of an outbreak to mitigation.（香港可能需要考慮將策略從控制疫情爆發轉移到減災。）
