Strand

滯留（stranded）在湖北省的香港人終於回港，希望他們順利通過14日檢疫，然後真正回家。

Strand用作動詞時，用於人指「滯留」，無法從某處離開。例句︰The government finally brought back Hong Kong residents stranded in Hubei province.（政府終於帶回滯留在湖北省的香港居民。）Because of the typhoon, hundreds of people were stranded at the airport last night.（由於颱風，昨晚有數百人滯留在機場。）

動詞strand用於描述海上的動物或東西，譬如海洋生物和船隻，則解「擱淺」。例句︰The scientists rescued two whales that were stranded on the beach last week.（上周，科學家救了兩條擱淺在海灘上的鯨魚。）The fishing boat was stranded on a deserted island.（漁船擱淺在一個荒島上。）

Strand可以用作名詞，指「（繩、綫等的）股、縷」，例如，a strand of dental floss（一縷牙綫）、a strand of hair（一條頭髮）。Strand也可以指「（故事、主題或情況的）部分」，例如，This novel can be hard to follow as it has so many different strands to the plot.（這本小說很難搞清楚，因為它有很多不同的故事情節。）
