Step up

世衞表示，引發肺炎的新冠狀病毒可能出現有限度人傳人。日本又證實出現第一宗病例。大家要加緊（step up）注意個人衞生，勤洗手，健健康康過新年！

單字step可以用作名詞或動詞。Step用作名詞時，原意指「一步、腳步聲、梯級」，另引伸多個意思：「步驟、階段、措施」等等。例如，Move two steps back.（向後退兩步。）Please mind the steps.（請注意梯級。）What's the next step？（下一步是甚麼？）

Step用作動詞時，解「邁步、踏、踩」，可以後接副詞（adverb）或者介詞（preposition）點出行走的方向。例句︰Do not step backwards in areas full of toys.（不要在放滿玩具的地方向後退。）The moment the teacher stepped into the classroom, every student stopped talking.（老師走進教室的那一刻，每個學生都停止講話。）

動詞step加上介詞up，變成動詞短語step up，則解「加快、增加、促進」。例句︰The Chinese government needs to step up efforts to control spread of the coronavirus.（中國政府需要加大力度控制冠狀病毒的傳播。）
