Work mode

友人工作纏身，昨日卻勉強出席燭光晚餐，結果被投訴依然開啟工作模式（work mode），無意慶祝情人節。情人節太商業化，友人根本不當它是一回事，寧願慶祝拍拖周年。

名詞mode解「方式、方法」，例如mode of life（生活方式）、mode of delivery（送貨方法）、mode of transport（運輸模式）、mode of travel（旅遊方式）、mode of thought（思維模式）、silent mode（靜音模式）等等。例句︰They both prefer a relaxed mode of travel.（他們都喜歡輕鬆的旅遊方式。）He was not only unable but unwilling to adopt the Western mode of life.（他不僅不能，而且不願意採用西方的生活方式。）

Be in work mode指「處於工作模式」。例句︰If you treat all emails as urgent, you will find yourself constantly in work mode.（如果你將所有電郵視為緊急，你會發現自己經常處於工作模式。）相反，可以說be in holiday mode。例如︰I'm totally stuck in holiday mode and don't feel like working.（我完全陷入放假模式之中，不想工作。）
