Scare to death

作為老師，在萬聖節當日上課要特別提高警覺。否則，膽小如我，很容易被學生的萬聖節惡作劇嚇死（scare to death）。

Scare一字可以用作動詞或名詞，解「使驚恐、恐慌、害怕、非常擔心」。例句︰Why do cats scare easily？（為甚麼貓很容易嚇到﹖）My mum gave me a real scare when she fainted this morning.（今天早上媽媽昏倒的時候，真的把我嚇壞了。）

Scare somebody to death是誇張用語，說「嚇死人」是誇大驚恐和緊張的程度。例句︰Job interviews always scare me to death.（求職面試總是令我非常緊張。）然而真的是「被嚇死了」，可以說be literally scared to death。例如，The young child was literally scared to death when he wrongly entered the mortuary.（那個幼童錯入殮房，而真的被嚇死了。）

「把……嚇跑」，英文可以說scare somebody/something away/off。例如，Don't move too close or you'll scare the butterflies away.（不要移得太近，否則你會把蝴蝶嚇跑。）We scared the dogs off with a bat.（我們用球棒把狗嚇走。）
