The most unexpected

特朗普當選美國總統與英國脫歐同樣震撼，有人甚至形容特朗普當選是歷史上最意想不到的（the most unexpected）總統選舉結果。

動詞expect解「預計、預料」，unexpected是以過去分詞（past participle）用作形容詞（adjective），解「出乎意料的」。例如an unexpected outcome（意想不到的結果）、an unexpected visit（突然到訪）。

形容詞加上定冠詞（definite article）the可以用作名詞，例如，the rich（有錢人）和the poor（窮人）。這種形式的名詞大多是當複數用，要後接複數動詞（plural verb）。例句：Why the rich are getting richer？（為甚麼有錢的人愈來愈有錢﹖）The poor are paying more and more for everyday purchases.（窮人花在購買日常用品的開支愈來愈多。）

不過，因為the most unexpected是最高級形容詞（superlative adjective），話明「最」，當然只有一個，所以the most unexpected後面要接單數動詞（singular verb）。例句：Of all the elected US presidents in history, the most unexpected is Donald Trump.（在歷史中所有當選的美國總統中，最令人意想不到的是特朗普。）
