Erratic

在港升學，一試定生死。不過，人生就是要面對一場又一場的考試，升學試、見工的筆試、見工的面試。我會跟學生說，真正有實力的人表現穩定，一試定生死又如何。

表現「穩定」，英文可以用stable形容；相反，用unstable。另外，也可以用erratic，表示「不穩定的、難以預測的、無計劃的」，常帶貶義。例如，an erratic candidate（不穩定的候選人）、an erratic golf player（不穩定的高爾夫球手）、erratic weather（變化無常的天氣）、erratic rainfall（不穩定的降雨）、an erratic breathing pattern（飄忽不定的呼吸模式）等等。

例句：Peter is a talented but erratic piano player.（彼得是個天才鋼琴家，但表現飄忽不定。）The computer is working erratically - there must be something wrong with it.（電腦表現不穩定，一定有甚麼問題。）
