Cautiously optimistic

世上有太多事情不在我們的控制範圍之內，事情是好是壞、怎樣發展或許只能盡人事、聽天命；但這不代表要悲觀（pessimistic），而是持審慎樂觀（cautiously optimistic）的態度。Pessimistic和optimistic是反義詞，一負一正。Optimistic的字首opti-源自拉丁文optimus。Optimus指the best，同樣以opti-起首的optimal，就是指the best or the most favourable（最好或最有利），如the optimal temperature（最佳溫度）、the optimal amount（最佳分量）。

Pessimistic和optimistic這對反義詞，運用起來文法一樣，都是常用to be/ feel pessimistic/ optimistic about something（對某事悲觀/樂觀），或者to be pessimistic/ optimistic that something...（悲觀/樂觀地認為某事……）。例句：He is deeply pessimistic about his promotion prospect in this company.（他對在這家公司晉升的前景深感悲觀。）He is optimistic that the restaurant's profit will double this year.（他樂觀地認為餐廳今年將有雙倍利潤。）
