卡塔爾世界盃2022第一場足球比賽，將於香港時間11月21日進行。預計有約120萬名球迷到訪當地，大部分酒店客房經已被預訂，當局便臨時興建一個「球迷村」，6,000間組合屋可容納1.2萬人居住，每晚價格約1,600港元。然而有英國媒體批評住宿環境十分擁擠，有本港網民則揶揄設計與竹篙灣隔離營非常相似。

綜合外媒報道，卡塔爾世界盃即將揭幕，當地約有200萬間酒店客房經已被預訂，有住宿代理平台為此特意增加3萬間客房。主辦國為應付龐大遊客量，特意在機場附近興建一個「球迷村」（fan village），可容納1.2萬人居住，每晚價錢約200美元（約1,600港元），鄰近有地鐵站、巴士站、餐廳和便利店，約40分鐘車程便可到達賽事場地。

從官方介紹和照片可見，球迷村設於一片大空地，有6,000間呈長方形的獨立屋，每間屋最多2人入住，裡面配有2張單人床或一張雙人床、浴室、迷你雪櫃、每天2瓶水、床單、一套桌椅、浴巾、冷氣、熱水壺、泡茶及咖啡設備。營地有餐廳和其他餐飲設施，人行道用人造草皮覆蓋，球迷可在擺滿大型豆袋椅的公共區域觀看賽事直播，亦可在足球場、羽毛球場、籃球場、健身區等消遣，目前有約6成獨立屋已被預訂。

由於卡塔爾是伊斯蘭教國家，入住球迷需遵守當地伊斯蘭教法，只能於特定時間在酒店、餐廳和球迷區飲酒。在世界盃舉行期間，球迷被允許在賽前和賽後在體育場內購買啤酒，晚上在指定球迷區飲酒，亦需要在公共場合蓋住肩膀和膝蓋。
香港網民嘲似隔離營
然而有英國媒體則批評，獨立屋之間過於擁擠，甚至形容似貨船貨櫃。有本港網民則揶揄似竹篙灣「方艙」隔離營：「肯定符合防疫要求，輸入性個案在入面踎，與世隔絕，想睇波，睇直播，又可以收多次錢」、「順便做埋檢測變方艙」、「竹篙灣已經係世界級了」、「香港可以申辦世界盃」、「貨櫃屋都要$1,500一晚，貴過香港啲劏房」。
