昔日情侶分別70年後重逢。美國一名91歲退役軍人在韓戰時期駐紮日本，期間結識一名日本女友，二人原打算結婚，女方更已懷孕，惟他接到命令需在一周內返回美國，未料他回國後與女方失去聯絡，僅得知對方小產並已結婚，但他多年來均未曾忘記女方，亦希望讓她知道自己從未拋棄她，故在70年後透過社交平台尋人，二人最終得以重聚。

綜合外媒報道，來自美國中西部愛荷華州（Iowa）的91歲男子Duane Mann是一名退役海軍下士，從軍時期曾參與韓戰；駐紮日本橫須賀（Yokosuka）時，會在空軍倉庫、俱樂部做兼職，或修理老虎機等，期間結識當地女子Peggy Yamaguchi並展開交往。
返美與懷孕未婚妻分別
二人計劃結婚，Peggy更已懷孕，惟當時23歲的Duane接到命令，指所有海軍人員均需撤出日本，他將在一周內返回美國，只得讓Peggy留在日本，並承諾會娶她為妻，並派人去接她到美國。兩人最後一次見面為1954年，離別時，Peggy一直站在原地哭泣。
Duane回家後，發現父親陷入經濟困境並花光積蓄。他後來找到一份在中西部修建高速公路的工作，同時繼續與Peggy通信。他通常每周會收到一封信。後來Peggy未有再來信，至3個月後他收到對方寄來的最後一封信，女方在信上表示自己小產，並已跟一名空軍結婚。Duane對此坦言：
「我被徹底摧毀！一切都結束了，我拋棄了她……這種想法讓我筋疲力盡，這不是一件光榮的事情……」
Duane隨後更發現母親燒毀了部分信件，「她不想我迎娶一個日本女孩，她想我跟教會的女孩結婚！」有感初戀夢碎，生活仍要繼續。Duane有過兩段婚姻，分別持續17年和47年，育有6名子女、18名孫兒和6名曾孫，幼女Janel Cogdill形容父親非常懷念在日本的時光。

婚後誕6子女 未忘昔人戀人
Duane稱自己過著美好的生活、得到很多祝福，擁有大家庭令他幸福無比，但與Peggy離別一事一直困擾著他，坦言從未忘記對方，亦後悔當年遺下她在日本；Duane的幼女亦形容「這是困擾父親一生的事情」。在子女的鼓勵下，他決定在Facebook分享跟Peggy的故事，以及他在日本拍攝的照片，希望有人會認出Peggy並尋找對方。他指唯一的線索是Peggy現在年約80歲尾至90歲頭，聲稱嫁給一名來自威斯康辛州（Wisconsin）的空軍，
「真正令這件事變得困難的是，Peggy認為我拋棄了她……我無法擺脫這種想法。我會跟她說『我晚年來找你，是想讓你知道一件事，就是我並沒有拋棄你』。」
對此，兒子Brian Mann認為這是父親「內疚、困惑和悲傷的結合」，他支持父親尋找失去的愛人，希望他能藉此消除內心的罪惡感。

循報章線索尋人
Duane上月初現身《KETV NewsWatch 7》節目，訴說故事，加上Facebook帖文引起廣大迴響，連日本媒體也刊登報道。加拿大溫哥華23歲歷史頻道研究員Theresa Wong隨後找到密芝根州（Michigan）《每日新聞》1956年2月3日的報章，裡面有一篇文章講述一名來自東京的女子嫁到埃斯卡納巴（Escanaba）的故事，對方同樣叫做Peggy，上面印有地址，她便聯絡記者Michelle Bandur，後者循線索找到Peggy的長子Rich Sedenquist，他坦言收到訊息時以為是騙案，
「要找出答案只有一個方法，我把自己的藍牙耳機遞給母親，播放記者傳給我的影片，她馬上說『我記得他……他真的很愛我』。」
相隔70年後重逢
據報Peggy現年91歲，目前與丈夫同住，夫婦在1955年於密芝根州埃斯卡納巴結婚，育有3名兒子。當她得知Duane花上70年尋找她時，坦言感到很震驚。Duane和Peggy在埃斯卡納巴郊外的島嶼度假村會議室見面，分別多年後終於重聚，他們擁抱、親吻，笑談當年在日本的時光。
對於跟女方重逢，Duane感到如釋重負。期間他向Peggy展示自己的銀包，裡面放有她的照片長達70年時間！Duane不忘向她表示：「我在這裡告訴你，我從來沒有拋棄你，我只是找不到你。」而Peggy亦一直對他念念不忘，她次子Mike Sedenquist的中間名（middle name）名為「Duane」，對此次子表示：
「D-U-A-N-E，現在才明白我為何得到這個名字，這並非偶然，是有可歌可泣的原因。」
