大象單獨被囚43年 終以「安樂死」告別抑鬱

被喻為「世界上最悲傷的大象」(The Saddest Elephant in the World)—Flavia三歲時就被人從象群中帶走，並送往西班牙科爾多瓦動物園（Cordoba Zoo）生活。

動物園長期單獨困住Flavia，43年以來每日都是孤獨地過日子，沒機會接觸其他同伴。被迫「獨居」的Flavia最終患上抑鬱症；近幾個月開始，健康更每況愈下，直至3月1日意外倒地後，就再無法站起來，最終以「安樂死」終結悲慘的一生。

大象是群居動物，牠們就像人類一樣，遭受虐待後也會患上心理障礙。獨居的大象會自我傷害，例如會自己咬自己、在圍欄中轉圈等…過去曾有動物保護團體爭取過讓Flavia跟其他同伴一起居住，然而最後都是不成功。但最令人感到無奈的是，最終只有死亡才可以令Flavia擺脫昔日所受的痛苦。
