Threshold

香港5月1日起放寬非香港居民的入境限制，而且會同步調整放寬航班的熔斷機制，確診乘客的門檻（threshold）將由3人提高到5人。

名詞threshold用作描述程度時，解「門檻、界限、起點」，即是某事情開始發生或者開始體驗到某事情的水平。例如，Young children normally have a very low boredom threshold.（幼兒通常容易感到無聊乏味。）

The government should lower the threshold for applying for the Elderly Dental.（政府應降低申請長者牙科服務的門檻。）

名詞threshold除了配搭動詞have和lower，可以配搭raise（提高）、exceed（超過）、cross（超越）等等。例句︰We have achieved and exceeded the threshold for herd immunity of 75 percent.（我們已經達到並超過了75%的群體免疫門檻。）

Hong Kong crossed the threshold of one million cases of Covid-19.（香港突破了100萬確診個案的界綫。）

至於形容詞，threshold大多配搭low或者high。例如︰These soldiers are trained to have a high pain threshold.（這些軍人被訓練到很能忍受痛楚。）

The government tends to maintain a low tax threshold.（政府傾向於維持較低的稅收起徵點。）
