Civilians

俄軍雖然從烏克蘭首都基輔撤走，但是烏克蘭在基輔外圍發現超過400具平民（civilian）屍體。目睹俄軍暴行的民眾情緒受過度刺激，根本無法作供。

名詞civilian指「平民」，用於相對軍人（soldier）和警察（police）。例如，The attack killed ten soldiers and eighteen civilians.（這次襲擊造成10名士兵和18名平民喪生。）

Civilians are called upon to fight the war.（平民被要求參加戰爭。）

Civilian一字也可以用作形容詞，置於名詞之前。例如，civilian clothes（平民服）、civilian life（平民生活）、civilian job（平民工作）。

形容詞civil亦可以解「平民的、公民的」。例如，After decades of military dictatorship, the country finally has a civil government.（經歷了十年軍事獨裁統治後，那個國家終於有了文人政府。）

This area is for military use rather than civil.（這區是軍用而非民用。）

This case will be a lot cheaper to be dealt with in the civil court rather than by a criminal proceeding.（這案件在民事法庭處理會便宜很多，不需要進行刑事訴訟。）
