Urge

儘管各界力勸（urge）政府全面封關，林鄭依然我行我素，懶理醫護罷工，不管市民死活。「擠牙膏式」封關，成效不彰，無助香港防疫。

Urge用作動詞時，解「力勸、敦促、竭力主張」，即是persistently persuade（堅持不懈地勸說）、strongly advise（強烈忠告）、strongly suggest（強烈建議）。

要別人力勸，當然是該做但還未做的事情，所以urge會後接介詞to帶出力勸別人去做甚麼事情--to urge somebody to do something。例句︰Thousands of healthcare workers urged the government to close all its borders with the Mainland.（數千醫護人員敦促政府關閉與內地的所有邊界。）The Hospital Authority urged patients with mild illnesses to visit private clinics instead of public hospitals.（醫管局敦促患有輕微疾病的病人去私家診所而不是公立醫院就診。）

Urge也可以用作名詞，解「強烈慾望」，後接的事情都是未發生的，所以跟介詞to--urge to do something。例句︰He could no longer resist the urge to scratch his skin.（他再也抵擋不住抓皮膚的衝動。）
