Bushfires

澳洲山火（bushfires）持續了近四個月，當地高溫、乾燥加上強風，令山火繼續惡化，成千上萬的市民急須逃離家園。這次山火如斯嚴重是因為氣候變暖，減少全球的碳排放量已是迫在眉睫的問題。

Fire解「火、爐火」。例如，Animals are afraid of fire.（動物怕火。）Lighting the coal fire on such a cold morning is a tedious and arduous chore.（在如此寒冷的早上燃點煤火是一件煩瑣而艱苦的工作。）

Fire亦可以指「失火」，如果說有東西on fire，即是它在不應該燃燒的時候着火。例句︰We had to leave before our house was on fire.（我們必須在房子着火之前離開。）指「失火」時，名詞fire常配搭動詞start（起火）、catch（着火）、spread（蔓延）、stop（阻止）、extinguish（撲滅）等等。例句︰The woman was accused of starting a fire at home that killed two dogs and injured her husband.（該名女子被控在家中起火，導致兩隻狗死亡及丈夫受傷。）Under these conditions, bushfires spread quickly and are hard to stop.（在這種情況下，叢林大火迅速蔓延，難以阻止。）
