Lift

1993年，兩名十歲男童虐殺一名年僅兩歲的小孩，轟動全英國。兩人服刑後獲准終身匿名，以保護他們的安全。

可是，其中一人屢次因持有兒童色情照片而出入監獄，法庭實在應該撤銷禁令（lift the ban），讓所有人都知道他是危險人物。

Lift一字原意指「舉起、拿起」，把東西從低位移到高位。例如，Could you help your father lift the box, please？（你能幫父親抬一下箱子嗎？）He lifted the gold medal over his head.（他舉起金牌。）

Lift也可以用於抽象，指「提升（精神或信心）」。例句︰The pay rise will definitely help to lift staff morale.（加薪肯定有助於提升員工的士氣。）

在lift the ban一語中，lift指「撤銷、取消（規定或法律）」。例句︰The government lifted the restriction on the upper age limit for applying the subsidy.（政府解除了對申請補貼的年齡上限。）The victim's father has launched a legal challenge to lift the anonymity order.（受害者的父親已經發起法律挑戰，要求取消匿名令。）
